“Why trying to please everyone online can make influencers seem fake — a look at authenticity in the off-road and social media world.”
In today’s influencer-driven world, it feels like authenticity is becoming a rare currency. One of my biggest pet peeves is watching upcoming influencers bend over backwards to be everything to everyone — constantly shifting their tone, opinions, and even values just to stay likeable.
They’ll agree with one person in the comments, then say the opposite to someone else. They’ll post one thing on their story, then contradict it in a caption the next day. And while it might seem like they’re just being “relatable” or “inclusive,” it often comes across as fake.
The truth is, you can’t build real trust if you’re constantly shape-shifting to avoid conflict or criticism. People can sense when something doesn’t feel genuine — and over time, that erodes credibility.
Being adaptable is a strength. But being so eager to please that you lose your voice? That’s a problem. The most powerful influencers aren’t the ones who agree with everyone — they’re the ones who stand for something, even if it doesn’t please the crowd.
