This likely isn't the correct place to post this but gonna anyways.
This was our first year at mudfest and we had a great time. After being harped at for driving around without a helmet, I quickly learned they were concerned about safety so I started wearing the damned thing. Then the mud run began and any resemblance to safety flew out the window. After the riders were asked to exit the hole slowly someone sprayed the crowd with mud. After getting sassed by a very unhappy woman he tried again and hisided and hit some water barrels next to the fence. Instead of warning the riders, again, they made the spectators move and threatened to have the cops move them if they didn't. Not Cool at all.
Now on to the pit. There was a bit of rubbin which I'm not too keen on. This could easily be fixed by putting stakes at the start line, on the hump, and at the finish line and having to stay in your own lane. Hit a Stake, you lose....
One last thing, Keep the 2wd wheelers out of the mud and for the love of all that is holy, PUT YOUR BIKES IN 4WD....... The left lane had a nasty hole because of a 2wd bike getting stuck and a couple other 4wd bikes left in 2wd

The first part of your post I some what agree with, doing a powerslide around the corner coming back to the line wasn't necessary, you were out of the hole. Emotion sometimes makes your thumb heavier than it has to be if you lose a close race or got outright RUBBED to hard. I'm not blaming spectators for anything but that end of the track was not the best place to observe from. I was asked last year to putt around with my helmet on as well so I complied, not a bad rule really but does seem like a pain at times doing 2 to 5 mph. Better safe in the end though.
The rubbing part comes down to rider mostly, being outright run into is one thing but you take care of those guys by beating them, guys getting together in the hole side by side is just the nature of this type of racing, the bottom is not smooth and will get more rutted as the day wears on whether someone is in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. It would be hard to stake the lanes and make someone stay in their own lane, the hole getting tore up could be enough to put you in the other lane through no fault of your own and you shouldn't have to lose for something you may not be able to control. Part of the whole racing experience is trying to figure out where the best line is and trying to get down that line before the other guy. A coin flip determines lane choice so if you lost every coin flip all day and there was a real BAD side there wouldn't be much skill involved in winning.
If a guy is outright running into the side of other bikes then something may have to be looked at but in all honesty we all have to realize there is some risk involved to man and machine in this type of racing. I say leave it like it is as far as the event goes. In the end it is a RACE and you are gonna get competitors going for the same piece of track. Just my opinion and I'm stating it as one of the guys who got RUBBED pretty good, rubbin is racing, and you can always find a way to rub back if need be. That's the beauty of it. What goes around comes around.
Same here I got rubbed and did some rubbin as well. It would be impossible to put 2 guys in that deep of a pit and expect them to not cross each others path. The left side was worse put you only had to start on the left, you didn't have to stay there. I noticed some guys when starting and even myself at the end when I drew the left sid I started as close to the guy on the right as possible. Backfired on me once as I went for the right lane too quick and got cut off and pinned in behind the other bike with only two options stop or run him over, I decided to stop. Nobody's fault but my own I should have waited just a few seconds more before makin the move. I can also speak first hand on the powerslide mud throwin as Chapman got me real good while I was waiting to shake his hand after beating him through the hole, but it was all in fun I was soaked already anyways. The spectators have to realize if they want to be that close to the action they are gonna get dirty. From what I can remember of the driver's meeting we were told to keep it down after exiting the hole, that there was mud on the ground at the end of the pit if we goosed her in it fine but once turned around and headed to the parking area slow down.
This year, imop, was perfect I wouldn't change a thing.

Due to the fact that I didn't have the time to do much chatting during the drag races I never got to really meet any of the other competitors other than Chris Mullens (white raptor)....who is a really nice guy and had some of the best reaction times I have ever seen....he cut a .403 on a .400 Pro Tree on one race...heck,John Force himself would have to be impressed.
I am sure some of the other competitors are members of the site....so don't be shy...introduce yourself..
I will start off....My name is Bennett Hunter and I have a little performance shop called Team X Racing in Astle (just outside Boiestown)....and I thoroughly enjoy racing and wrenching on all kinds of performance machines (bikes, cars, snowmobiles) but ATVs have become my real passion over the last few years...I do have a little bias towards Hondas....but I certainly appreciate and respect all the awesome machines the other manufacturers offer...and to be honest getting a Honda 4x4 to be competetive with some of the big bad beasts I seen at Mudfest would be quite a challenge...but if I could afford to I would love to see how a well built and setup Rincon would do in the mud races.
Anyway...I look forward to hearing from some of you guys....later.
Hey bennett. My name is matt and i'm a arcticoholic.
